Topajo Cottage

Lake Joseph, Ontario, Canada  |  COTTAGE  |  5,800 sq.ft  |  TRANSITIONAL

Nestled at the north end of Lake Joseph, Topajo Cottage (pronounced top-uh-joe) is a transitional retreat that blends sleek contemporary architecture with timeless Muskoka character.

Starting with a vacant lot, our team transformed a blank canvas into a cliff-side residence that celebrates its dramatic natural setting while providing every comfort for family living and entertaining. SCD was involved from the outset, guiding every decisions—from the initial driveway cut to project staging and move-in.

The exterior features sleek charcoal siding and a black metal roof, adding texture to the otherwise monochromatic façade. Expansive walls of glass and clean architectural lines create a modern aesthetic, while exposed rafter tails and shed dormers honor Muskoka’s classic charm.

Inside, bright white interiors and soaring 11-foot ceilings flood the cottage with natural light. The design draws inspiration from New York’s Art Deco style, with a crisp black-and-white palette, metallic accents, and striking linear patterns.

The result is a timeless cliff-side masterpiece that seamlessly blends contemporary design with traditional elements, creating the perfect Muskoka getaway.

Designs were also prepared for an accompanying 1.5-storey boathouse and three-car-garage—see our Portfolio for more.
