Topajo Boathouse
Lake Joseph, Ontario | BOATHOUSES | 645 sq.ft | TRANSITIONAL
Pronounced top-uh-joe, this custom boathouse is located at the north end of Lake Joseph. Designed to complement the accompanying cottage, the goal was to create a transitional design while adhering to the strict municipal bylaws of Seguin Township.
SCD completed the architectural design, interior design, and furnishings for the project, including securing a minor variance for an expanded covered sitting area. The 1.5-storey, 2.5-slip boathouse features a centralized hip roof with extending dormers.
Constructed on a limited underwater ledge, the boathouse required careful site analysis and an underwater sonar survey to locate a suitable shelf, allowing it to be built without cantilevering. A custom lowering swim platform responds to the dramatic shoreline, providing easy lake access for children and pets.
The exterior mirrors the main cottage, with charcoal siding, a black standing-seam metal roof, and clear pine soffits.
Above, the upper living level includes one bedroom, one bathroom, and a primary living space. Interiors echo the main cottage while introducing a playful, summertime palette.
This thoughtful design seamlessly blends with the main cottage while offering unique and functional features for the North Lake Joseph shore.
